Yoga

Yoga

Yoga is the oldest science of life - a system of exercises and techniques for achieving radiant health, longevity, self development, and inner peace. The word yoga means union; practicing yoga brings the whole person - body, mind, emotions, and spirit, into a natural state of balance.

Self Healing

The most important part of yoga therapy is the role of the individual in his or her healing process. Often, healing techniques are passive and therefore leave the individual feeling like he or she is not an active participant. By actively participating in the yoga therapy process, individuals are empowered to heal themselves in ways they never knew they had the ability to do. They will come to a deeper understanding of their whole being as we work with all elements to create healing.

What To Expect In Sessions

Sessions are created individually to deal with all elements of the person. Generally, each one will include a discussion period, yoga postures, breathing, relaxation, and meditation. Each person will be given an individualized tape to practice with. Everyone is expected to practice on their own to enhance the benefits of the session.

  • Yoga Postures - The physical positions which increase strength, flexibility, and balance. They also free the energy and help to detoxify the body.
  • Breathing - The breathing techniques are used to strengthen the nervous system, calm the mind, and fully oxygenate the whole system.
  • Relaxation - This includes progressive muscle relaxation, body visualization, and energy release. This guided period allows the body and mind to rebalance.
  • Meditation - Meditation is the stilling of the mind achieved by focusing one's attention on a simple object such as the breath, energy, a sensation, or emotion. Instructions will be given according to individual needs.
  • Discussion - This time is used to evaluate the needs of the client, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Discussion will also include progress being made toward the individuals' goals and any relevant lifestyle changes.
